Academics Rules:
Teaching System & Evaluation
Combination of lectures and case study method forms the basis of the teaching system. Student’s performance in each course is evaluated on a continuous basis throughout the semester. Final Grading for each is based on monthly examination, quizzes, assignments, term papers/projects and class participation.

Students are required to register courses for each semester. Course registration of the fresh students is done automatically by the respective department. For the subsequent semesters, the students have to go through registration seven days prior to the commencement of the classes. Complete registration includes fulfilling all financial obligations for the course. Fee has to be paid before commencement of the classes. No student will be guaranteed enrolment in a course until registration has been completed.
The University’s policy permits students to register within the registration week during regular administrative office hours. Registration is initiated by submitting a filled semester registration form.
It is mandatory for the students to register at least 9 credit hours per semester except in the final semester. Students are not allowed to register more than 18 credit hours per semesters (excluding final project).

Adding/Withdrawing Courses
The Head of Department must be informed of the student's intent to add or withdraw a course.
- Non-attendance does not constitute an official withdrawal.
- Courses cannot be added after one week of commencement of classes.
- Courses withdrawn before the mid-semester examination will not be recorded.
- Courses withdrawn three weeks before the commencement of the final examination will be recorded on the transcript with a grade ‘W’ after which withdrawal of the course will not be allowed.

One credit of theory requires 15 contact hours and one credit hour of practical/lab requires at least 30 contact hours. It is mandatory for every student to attend at least 75% of the contact hours failing which he/she will not be allowed to sit in the final examination.

The University reserves the right to cancel any course due to low enrolment or non-availability of faculty. Minimum required strength for offering of the non-elective courses is ten students.
The University reserves the right to form new sections and adjust/transfer students to other sections at any stage of the course.

The following shall be the conditions for repetition of courses:
- Repeating is only permitted in cases where the grade obtained is ‘C+’ or less.
- All attempts by a student in a subject regardless of the reasons will be recorded on the transcript. Only the highest of all attempts will be used in the calculation of the CGPA.

A total of 100 marks have been assigned for purpose of examination and grading. The scheme of marking is as under:

Attempting the final-semester examination is mandatory. Absence will result in a grade ‘F’ in the respective course.

Transcripts are issued to students upon completion of each semester. Transcripts indicate the course code, course title, grade and credits.

C+ = A generally satisfactory and intellectually adequate performance with evidence of
- An acceptable basic grasp of the subject material;
- A fair understanding of the relevant issue;
- A general familiarity with the relevant literature and techniques;
- An ability to develop solutions to moderately difficult problems related to the subject material;
- A moderate ability to examine the material in critical and analytical manner, and to express thoughts in writing.
C = A barely acceptable performance with evidence of
- A familiarity wit the subject material;
- Some evidence that analytical skills have been developed;
- Some understanding of relevant issues;
- Some familiarity with the relevant literature and techniques;
- Partially successful attempts to solve moderately difficult problems related to the subject material and to examine the material in a critical and analytical manner;
- Basic competence in writing.
F = An unacceptable performance

Students will be placed on probation if their GPA (First semester only)/CGPA falls between 2.00 and 2.49. Only one chance of probation in one-year programs and two chances of probation in academic programs for more than one year will be allowed.
Students whose GPA (First semester only)/CGPA falls below 2.00 and those students who are unable to clear the probation in the allowed attempt(s) will be dismissed from the program. However, such students may be permitted to join other academic programs of the same level, provided they fulfill the basic criteria for admission to the programs concerned.
If there are some common courses between a student’s previous academic program and the one he would rejoin, he could claim exemption for only those courses, which he had passed during his previous program with at lease C+ grade.

Migration and Credit Transfers
Migration will only be allowed from the colleges, universities or the institutions recognized by the University Grants Commission. No migration will be allowed into one-year programs.
Transfer of credits will be considered on the basis of course contents, credit hours and basic eligibility criteria. The equivalence committee will make final recommendations.
A maximum of 50% of the total credits in the program to which transfer is sought can be transferred.
Migration will only be allowed if the CGPA of the applicant is 2.5 or above according to the grading system of Bahria University.

Students, in all Programs may simultaneously complete two majors provided both majors lead to the same degree. They will have to complete all the requirements of the first major before getting registered for the second one.
The intention of taking a second major must be indicated maximum by the start of the last semester of the program. Completion of the second major will be based on degree requirements in effect at the time of the request. Only one degree will be issued.
Students must meet with their Head of Department to initiate the process. The Admissions Office will issue an official notice of acceptance.

Following rules are to be followed for the conduct of examinations:

Be punctual; you should be present in the vicinity of the Examination Hall well before starting time for each paper or practical, and be seated as directed by the invigilation staff. The door of Examination Hall will be closed before the starting time and the paper will start at the exact time.

Possession of firearms, knives etc. inside and in the vicinity of Examination Hall is a crime under the country’s law; and shall constitute a punishable offence.

Bring all your needed equipment e.g. pens, pencils, sharpeners, rulers etc with you. You would not be allowed to borrow these items from other candidates.

Books, Magazines, Notes, Written or Blank paper sheets etc. are not allowed inside Examination Hall. If found in the possession of a candidate, his paper will immediately be cancelled.

Electronic note-books and mobile phones are not allowed in the Examination Hall. Calculator may be allowed in certain papers.
No foods, beverages or cigarettes will be allowed inside or consumed in the Examination Hall.

No candidate should allow any one to impersonate him to appear in the examination on his behalf. This will result in serious consequences such as cancellation of registration from Bahria University.

Cheating from, and helping other candidates in the Examination Hall would also result in serious consequences.

You must maintain discipline in the Examination Hall. Making noise, shouting or throwing objects will be considered as serious and punishable offence.

The invigilation staff will be very courteous, friendly and helpful but do not ask them for any help in answering the questions. This will be taken as cheating. You may ask them if any clarification in the question paper is required.

You are also required to be respectful and polite towards the invigilation staff. Show of temper, anger, misbehavior, misconduct or disrespectful utterances will be dealt with serious punishment.

Students achieving high academic standards are awarded Honors upon completion of their degree requirements. Honors designations are indicated on the degree and transcript. Medals and Merit Certificates are awarded to these students at the convocation ceremony.

The university will release transcripts upon written request from the student. No official transcripts will be released until all obligations to the University have been met. Requests will not be accepted from, or released to, third parties without a written consent from the student.

Since coursework begins every semester at Bahria University, students complete degree requirements and are graduated from the University on a semester basis. Degrees are posted with the last date of the month in which the degree requirements are met.

The convocation ceremony for the University is traditionally held at least once a year. All students completing their degree during the previous semester are eligible to participate. However, Participation in the convocation ceremony is not mandatory.

Students with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 must contact the office upon receipt of their final grade to initiate final degree audit and order their degree. Students are required to remove any deficiencies from their academic record, clear any indebtedness to the University prior to release of the degree and official transcript indicating the award of the degree.
Students who have met all degree requirements and financial obligations may request from the University through a letter verifying degree completion prior to receiving their degree.

Bahria University provides academic guidance to all students throughout their academic careers at the University. Course Coordinators assist students entering the University with the selection of their courses.
The student-advisor relationship is viewed as a partnership. Both members of the team have responsibilities that, when properly fulfilled, enhance the student’s opportunities for academic success. Responsibilities of Course Coordinator include informing and explaining admission transfer credit implications, assisting in the general adjustments to university life, serving as resource person for university information and guiding students to meet graduation requirements.
It is the student’s responsibility to know their degree requirements, to be accountable for university policies, and to obtain course-scheduling information. Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor to inform him/her of problems that may affect academic performance, and utilize the advisor's expertise to most effectively achieve their academic goals. The student holds full responsibility for completion of degree requirements, including pre-requisites.

Talent Enhancing Activities
Students are encouraged to join different Societies such as Marketing Society, IT Society, Entertainment Society, Debating Society and Sports Society. Members of these societies work closely with the staff and faculty in coordinating extra-curricular activities and providing opportunities for students' personal and professional advancement. Some of the activities of the societies include events such as arranging picnics, sponsoring study tours, inviting guest speakers, assisting in holding of seminars, magazine and holding of get-together.

The BU Alumni Network provides services and benefits to Bahria University graduates, as well as current degree seeking and certificate students. The Network exists to foster the mission and purposes of the University, promote communication among alumni, students, faculty, and administration, and support members in the achievement of their professional goals. The network provides information regarding professional development, current university activities, career services, and continued access to online research.
Upon graduation, students are added to the database. However, current BU students are also welcome to join the Network and take advantage of the services offered. Students and alumni may join and continue to update their information by accessing and registering the Alumni Network. No dues or fees are associated with the Alumni Network.
